ArtWorks NW Biennial

I am so pleased that my painting called Song Of The Waterkeepers was selected for the 2025 ArtWorks NW Biennial. This painting was inspired by the intricate water ecology that supports the great basin ecosystems and the humans who live there. While at my 2024 residency at PLAYA, I finally was able to begin this painting. I had been thinking about it for a long time, as I often do before I am ready for a painting to unfold. I was still unsure how to begin. Immersing myself in the great basin landscape where PLAYA is located helped me to break through. The great basin landscape always makes me think differently about time. In nature everything is cyclical and moves infinitely more slowly because it is measured by seasons and generations. Endlessly plants and animals are born, recreate themselves, and die. When I look closely I find a rich history of life and support for the entire ecosystem. It is generous and perfect. I call this deep time.
